FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you're wondering, answered
The questions parents ask us most — about safety, meals, schedules, and getting started. Don’t see yours? Just reach out.
GETTING STARTED
Enrollment & visits
How do I enroll my child?
Start with a quick call or email telling us your child’s age and the schedule you need. We’ll invite you for a visit, walk you through the simple paperwork, and set a start date together.
Can I tour before enrolling?
Yes — and we encourage it. Coming to see the home, meeting Lisbeth and the team, and watching the kids in action is the best way to know we’re the right fit.
Is there a waitlist?
Because we keep our group small on purpose, spots open up only now and then. If we’re full, we’ll let you know where things stand and the best time to check back.
What ages do you accept?
We care for children from 6 weeks to 13 years, including before- and after-school care for older kids.
DAILY CARE
Safety & supervision
Is Liz Daycare licensed?
Yes. We’re a fully state-licensed home daycare and have operated this way since 2016. You’re welcome to ask us about our license during your visit.
How are the children supervised?
Children are supervised at all times in a small group, so each child gets real attention. Our home is fully licensed and childproofed, with smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors.
How many children do you care for?
We intentionally keep our group small. That’s the whole point — it lets us know every child by name and give them the care they’d get at home.
What's your approach when a child is upset?
Patience and warmth, always. We comfort children the way we’d want our own comforted — calmly, kindly, and with plenty of reassurance.
Who will care for my child?
Our owner-teacher, Lisbeth Varela, holds a BA in Early Childhood Education and leads a small, trained team. She’s hands-on throughout the day — from the morning’s fresh breakfast to the afternoon school run.
FOOD & WELLBEING
Meals & health
Do you provide meals?
Yes — fresh breakfast, morning snack, lunch and dinner are cooked in our own kitchen every day. No frozen or processed trays.
Can you handle allergies or dietary needs?
Absolutely. Let us know your child’s allergies or dietary needs in advance and we’ll plan meals around them.
What happens if my child gets sick?
We’ll contact you right away and follow standard guidance to keep the other children healthy. We’ll always communicate openly about how your child is feeling.
GROWTH
Bilingual care & learning
Is the program really bilingual?
Yes. English and Spanish are part of our whole day — in songs, stories, and everyday conversation — so children pick up both languages naturally, not as a lesson.
What will my child learn?
Depending on age: letters, numbers, colors, motor skills, social skills, art, music, simple science, and sensory play — all through hands-on play that feels like fun.
Do you prepare children for kindergarten?
We do. Our preschool-age care focuses on the confidence, routines, and early skills that help little ones walk into kindergarten ready.
Do you do outings or field trips?
Yes — weather permitting, we take walks to the neighborhood park and occasional small field trips, plus planned activities on varied themes throughout the week.
LOGISTICS
Hours, transport & rates
What are your hours?
We’re open Monday through Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM, with flexible scheduling. Ask us about early drop-off and late pick-up — we work with real family schedules.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
We do our best to accommodate part-time and flexible needs depending on availability. Tell us what you need and we’ll see how to make it work.
Do you provide school drop-off and pick-up?
Yes — for school-age children we handle the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Ask us about your child’s school to confirm it’s on our route.
How much does it cost?
Rates depend on your child’s age and the schedule you need, so we keep it simple: reach out and we’ll give you a clear, fair quote for your situation.
What's the best way to reach you?
Call or text (773) 986-4146 or email daycareliz54@gmail.com. We usually reply the same day.
Do you accept childcare assistance (CCAP)?
Yes — we’re glad to help families apply for the Illinois Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) so quality care stays affordable. Just ask and we’ll walk you through it.
